Guest Bath Redo

Have you ever wanted to just get rid of something and then wished you had taken pictures of the WAAAAAY before?  Oh, man when we moved in, there was blue carpet in here, WOW, really??!!!  A broken light and a vanity that had louver doors and a formica top with a sink that had a big chip out of it.

***Can you say U-G-L-Y.***
Makes me think of that song my kids used to sing by Daphne & Celeste: U.G.L.Y You ain't got no alibi you ugly eh! Hey! You ugly!

Well, we had an exchange student coming to stay with us for awhile, so we quickly through something in there and I just never got around to finishing the project.  Yep, yep I know, "preaching to the choir, again."  But, I did remember to take pictures of the after-redo/before-re-redo.  Did I lose anyone?  Wait for it, wait for it :)

OK, old first, then new

I am really happy with the way it turned out!!!  So, what do you think?

What is this???

I was at GW a while back and came across this cute little thing with a bird perched on top.  It has holes maybe for candles (don't really know).  Can you ladies help me find a purpose for it.  Maybe somewhere in the bathroom, laundry room or outside on the back porch.  Really just anywhere;)  I know ya'll will come up with some great ideas.

Tax season is OVER

Wow it's been a while since I've gotten to post.  My husband is a CPA and that means he works LONG hours this time of year, so I put in a lot more time doing things he normally does.  But, he has sold his practice and this will hopefully be the last year of that.  We have also been having some work done on our home, some by others and some I have done on my own.  I'll post photos soon of our redo's.    Ya'll know, life just gets in the way of a lot of things. lol
We bought a building for the restaurant we're going to open.  Need to repaint for sure!!!
Just before our daughters 21st birthday party I noticed a crack in the bench of our new patio furniture and they wouldn't just replace the bench, so I had to send it all back and it was going to take 3 weeks to get a new set (way too long).  I looked on Craigslist and found 2 Cracker Barrel rockers, a porch swing and a wooden table.  I spent a lot less than the new and in the long-run I really like them better.

I'm really thinking of painting all the furniture an antique white.

A glimpse of some changes to our master bath (more to follow very soon).

A whole lot of life has been going on and I love, love, love it.  Sorry to be bouncing all over the place with this post but, welcome to my life. lol   I'm sure you can relate, I'm preaching to the choir, you feel my pain,  any hoo, just stay tuned, more is a comm'n.

My 1st attempt at making a really COOL Cake

Between Naps on the Porch - Metamorphosis MondayMy oldest daughter turned 21 this past Saturday.  So, let's see. I had her when I was like 8, so that makes me what, 29. Whaahaaahaaa.  Ok, ok ,ok, since we've all had a good belly laugh this morning I'll get back to my story. She sent me a picture of a cake she liked at Elegant Endings & Catering, in Lincoln, Nebraska (if you live near there you should really check out her cakes, they look beautiful).  We live in Texas, not so close, so I decided to give it a shot.  It took ALL day Friday to bake, whip icing and decorate her cake, but I really enjoyed doing it.  I told my hubby when he asked how long he thought it would take to make it, as he was leaving for the office, "Oh, it'll take somewhere around 4 hours or so".  Well, just double that!!!  And I have one thing to say about fondant,  GROSS.  My 17 year old and I had made a trial run on rolling out the fondant and getting it smooth on a cake on Tuesday night.  We each got a piece and gave one to hubby/dad and when she and I took our first bites my first thought was, "I've got to spit this C@#% out" and when I looked at her face I could see that was what she was thinking too. Hubby/dad just said, "it's not the best, but it's okay",  MEN they'll eat anything. lol. So the next day I went out and got stuff to make buttercream frosting. Just so happens the lady behind me in the check-outline knows what I'm buying all this 10x and butter for because she's had owned a bakery for 32 years and had retired not too long ago. When I told her my fondant story she laughed and told me that all fondant is not created equally.  But, I think it turned out pretty darn good for my first one.

My Christmas present.  I've wanted one of these for years.
