One of My All Time Favorite Valentine's

One of the happiest Valentine's Dinner I can remember!!!  My daughter (that is still home) and the guy she had been dating for well over a year broke up about two weeks ago.  So my husband and I decided we wanted to spend the evening with her.  We made homemade pizza's and not too long after we got started our daughter who's husband is station in New Mexico called and we all talked over speaker phone while we made our pizza's  and she made her dinner. Her husband works nights so she was home alone tonight :(.

We all had such a good time in the "Heart of the home".  "Valentine's Day" "Heart of the Home", get it :)  I just wanted to share a few pictures of our day with you.

TJ Maxx Clearance Finds

I stopped on my way home from work Friday to see what was new at my favorite stores, you know the ones, TJ Maxx, Ross, and Home Goods.  I found two great tables at TJ Maxx on clearance.  This little white one had a leg broken off.  But it was marked down to $29.00 so I got it.  

I got out my wood glue and a clamp, wiped off the broken pieces to get any dust off and then put glue on both pieces, clamped them together, then left it to dry over night.  If you've never used this wood glue, let me tell you I think it's stronger than the wood itself after it has cured.

I put it in our bathroom. I finally finished painting it last night, well almost, the last thing that needs to be painted are the niches. You can see they're still white. But, I'll show you the before and after photos hopefully soon.  

The next one was marked down to $69.00 but I thought that it was still a little too pricey for what all was broke on it.  One of the back legs was broken off and missing (so we both thought), one door was off and the insert was out. So, I asked the manager if she could take any more off of it and she marked it down to $50.00

But, when I got home and took out the drawers I found the leg.  It had gotten wedged between the top and side of one of the drawers :)

I scrapped the lip of the door and reinserted the panel.  I filled the door hinge holes with glue and screwed the door back on.  After it had set for about 2 hours I turned it on its top and glued the leg back on.

I put it at the top of the staircase.  I just love the way it looks there.

This morning I started painting my kitchen cabinets (at least the parts that the backsplash will touch).  I think I might need to paint something else to get used to painting with chalk paint.  I knew it would be thick I just didn't realize how thick.  But, I do think I'll like using it because a LITTLE goes a long way.

Ready to Start Painting My Kitchen Cabinets

I went shopping this weekend and got my ASCP so I can start painting my kitchen cabinets. I've got to get started and FINISHED before the 20th. I want to be done by the time the backsplash  is installed on the 20th.

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead

I know we're all trying to stick to our New Year's resolutions and I have seen a lot of ways people are losing weight and I thought I would show you what is working for me personally. In no way am I getting paid for this post (although it would be nice. lol)

Before Christmas I was talking to one of my cousins and she said she had lost about 60 pounds since January of 2011. When I asked what she had done, she said she had watched Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead and then had done a juice fast and started eating healthier.  I was intrigued and watched it too.  I couldn't believe the transformation Joe Cross had gone through. Right then and there I decided I was going to do a fast right after Christmas. So, on the 26th I started a 3 day juice fast and now I juice fruits in the morning and veggies for lunch and then I try not to go overboard for dinner. So far I'm down 7 pounds and feeling better than I have in a long time.

I had pineapple, mango & kiwi juice for breakfast this morning.

 I got my juicer from Walmart for around $50.00. It's a GE brand and it seems to do a good job juicing. Although there are some tricks to what food you put in first.  I've learned to do the kiwi first. I had to throw out one of the kiwi because it was too soft. So you can see how much juice two kiwi makes it the glass below.

After the kiwi came the mango. I used a potato peeler to peel both the mango and kiwi (with the ends cut off first). This is with the mango juice added. 

Oh, then the good stuff. I used 1/4 of the pineapple with the outside cut off.  You can see that it makes a lot of juice. I juiced it last because it has so much pulp in it that it stops up the little holes where the juice comes through. 

After stirring it up I drink it pretty quickly because I've heard that the nutrient's start to die.

I had also watched a show back in 2007 called "The Truth About Food".  About a group of British people that lived in a zoo for 12 days and ate nothing but raw foods.  I found it again on line and watched it and thought you might want to also.

Love'n the Living room

I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and a fun New Years!  Now that I've gotten all the Christmas decorations put away I took a step back and looked to see what I wanted to do with the blank slate.  I thought something a little sunny to ward off the winter blues would be nice.

Every time I look at it, it makes me smile.  

   

The basket is where we keep all of the dog toys.  But, I took them out for the shoot because when I looked through the camera that's where my eye was drawn to.

The lanterns stayed where they were for Christmas.

My husband and daughter put their feet on the coffee table, therefore I try to keep it pretty simple, so I just put a couple fleu-de-lis and a little greenery on it.

This chair is almost like new and we got it the same time we got the couch and love seat.  It's that way because, no one ever sets in it because you can't see the television.

At 66% off I couldn't resist these tuscan inspired jars when I was at Hobby Lobby the other day.

Keeping with the design rule of "three's", I put this on the bottom shelf.  The colors all compliment each other.

 I didn't take a full view picture of the entry table but, this is a close-up view. I made the tassel last year. I made several with Cardinals, but this is the only one I have left.

Well, that's it for today.  I hope to have some pictures of the kitchen soon. I found some stone I like for the backsplash. I saw it on a commercial for an electric company of all places. You can see it here Milestone Electric. I thought it kind of ironic that their name has "stone" in it. I went to my friend that owns a flooring company and he tracked it down for me.  Now, I need to get started painting the cabinets and texturing the wall so when they get their part done I'll be ready for the big reveal.
